Newport local John Katsourakis has jumped back on his bike and will take on the Great Vic Bike Ride for the second time.
The Great Vic Bike Ride is an annual non-competitive bicycle tour event organised by Bicycle Network, which takes a different route around Victoria’s countryside each year.
Mr Katsourakis first participated in the ride 29 years ago, and said that it was Victoria’s COVID-19 lockdowns that made him get back on the bike.
“I probably wouldn’t have done it, but considering all the changes that have happened in the world, it felt like a good thing,” he said.
“I used to spend upwards of two hours a day driving to and from work.
“Now I used the time, put it to good use.
“Instead of just doing nothing, I got back on the bike.
“It made me feel better… you can be socially distanced and fit.”
Mr Katsourakis said he would be looking forward to the social aspect of the ride.
“Being able to socialise and just have fun with a bunch of like-minded people, of all ages… it’s really great,” he said.
“I get to achieve this big ride, and hopefully make some new friends along the way.”
The Great Vic Bike Ride is set to take place from November 27 to December 5.
