A nine-day ride across the state has helped raise more than $10,000 and highlighted the plight of the thousands of Victorians going hungry every day.
Foodbank Victoria boss Dave McNamara and AFL fitness coach Cameron Falloon pedalled their way through regional Victoria to raise awareness on the inaugural Hunger Ride.
After racking up almost 1200 kilometres the pair crossed the finish line at Foodbank’s Yarraville warehouse last Wednesday afternoon. Mr McNamara said the ride was to raise awareness, crucial food and funds for the one in 10 Australians who do not know where their next meal is coming from.
“This was an incredible opportunity to raise awareness around the issue of hunger in our own backyard, connect directly with the communities that we impact, as well as engage with the incredible partners who help Foodbank Victoria to fight hunger,” he said.
Foodbank Victoria also collected food to make more than 1000 meals via food drives in towns visited along the cycle route including Bairnsdale, Shepparton, Bendigo and Ballarat.
Last financial year Foodbank Victoria’s Yarraville warehouse was the distribution point for 9.5 million kilograms of food.
