One of Shakespeare’s most iconic plays will be taking over Williamstown’s Botanic Gardens this weekend.

OZACT’s Romeo and Juliet will be premiering this Saturday and Sunday at 3pm amongst the beautiful outdoor setting of the Botanic Gardens.

After a tough past two years for the arts industry, Artistic Director Bruce Widdop said it was finally time to get outdoors and have some fun.

“With covid safety a priority, we are really excited to see all our audiences returning to enjoy outdoor Shakespeare once again. It’s a great opportunity to reconnect with loved ones and start enjoying some of the things that we love,” he said.

Tour manager Lisa Widdop echoed these sentiments.

“Every show we get to perform is a blessing at the moment, it has been a really tough couple of years for most people, but certainly for people in the arts and entertainment industry.”

“We have a fantastic team, who really work together to navigate the hurdles the pandemic has thrown at us, and we are very excited to be back performing once again.”

She said OZACT usually perform outdoors to mimic the way productions were performed back in Shakespearean times.

“The [Botanic] gardens are a perfect location for our shows, they have many different areas, with different vistas and backdrops, from shady secluded spaces to dramatic sweeping lawns with towering trees that offer both intimacy and majesty which certainly fits with most Shakespearean productions,” she said.

Tickets are still available.
