Run away to the circus for school holidays

The winter school holiday program has commenced at Footscray’s Women’s Circus, allowing kids to get out of the house and burn off excess energy while remaining indoors and parents the chance to have a much needed break.

However, parents can also join in themselves, with the program featuring classes for all ages and experience levels between Monday, July 7 and Sunday, July 20.

There’s a kids circus workshop on Thursday, July 10, creative development workshops on the weekend of July 12 and 13 and beginners classes for the unicyle and aerials on July 16 and on July 17.

For adults looking for a fun way to get fit, a circus fit class takes place on the morning of Sunday, July 20, while open training sessions are available for members, circus professionals and people of marginalised gender on Friday, July 18 and Sunday, July 20.

From July 21, the term 3 social circus calendar kicks in and runs until September 21.

Beginning as a project of the Footscray Community Arts Centre, the Women’s Circus is now a not-for-profit intersectional feminist arts organisation specialising in social circus where circus arts are used as a tool for social transformation.
