Government schools across the state, including those in Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay, can now apply for grants to help fund small scale projects as part of the Capital Works Fund (CWF).
Education Minister Ben Carroll opened applications for the new fund, which was established in Victorian Budget 2024-25 following a $25 million investment, he said it was important to reward schools and provide them with opportunities to grow.
“Every Victorian student deserves a safe and inviting school environment, that’s why we are upgrading our schools and making sure they meet the needs of all children,” he said.
The initiative supports projects that improve the learning environment, condition, or character of government schools and makes our schools more inclusive for all students – including those with disabilities or additional needs.
Schools can apply for grants of up to $500,000 depending on the size of the project.
Schools can also apply for funding of up to $300,000 for infrastructure projects that make a difference in meeting the educational and social needs of children with disabilities or additional requirements. This includes inclusive playgrounds as well as inclusive indoor and outdoor learning areas.
Funding may be used for a range of projects such as classroom and toilet refurbishments, bicycle shelters, covered outdoor spaces, covered walkways, fences, flagpoles, outdoor learning areas, oval and playground repairs, relocatable building upgrades.
Applications for the funds are open until Friday, June 28.
Schools with successful applications are expected to be informed by the end of this year.
