Police are searching for a man over an assault on a train at Footscray Railway Station earlier this year.

A 55-year-old male was on board a stationary train at the station when he was approached by an unknown male about 9.30pm on July 21.

The unknown male assaulted the victim before leaving the train carriage. The victim sustained facial injuries and was later taken to hospital.

The male offender is described as being in his early 30s with black hair, wearing a green top with the number ‘9’ printed on the back, and dark coloured jeans.
