The owners of a slice of Seddon history knew they were on a good wicket when they made their home in a converted cricket bat factory.
Travis and Kendra’s townhouse in the former RM Crockett & Sons factory on Charles Street will hit prospective purchasers for six when it goes on the market for the first time in a decade.
As the owners prepare to relocate overseas, interest in the three-storey property is predicted from local, national and even international buyers.
The factory was a thriving enterprise from 1912 until the late 1950s, producing up to 5000 bats per year.
It was owned by Australian test umpire Bob Crockett, who grew thousands of his own willow trees near Hepburn Springs to create his bats.
Sotheby’s agent Grant Giordano said the conversion of the former factory was handled in a way that maintains a strong sense of its rich history.
“This is the first property we have listed in the west,” he said.
“This property is thought-provoking, but offers a luxurious lifestyle.
“The aesthetic and the functional works together.”
The property features a host of creature comforts and includes luxury touches such as a cinema room, pond and a “crows nest” with city views.
Mr Giordano said buyers from all over Melbourne are looking to the inner-west for value in what has become an enviable location.
“If this property was in Prahran or South Yarra, it would go for two or three times the price.”
The first open house for 2/138 Charles Street, Seddon will be held this Saturday.
Its auction takes place on May 13, with a price guide of $1.15-$1.2 million.
