Turn your clutter into cash while promoting sustainability when the ever-popular Garage Sale Trail returns next month.
The Garage Sale Trail is coming to Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay on the weekend of October 21-22, as 10,000 sites and an estimated 350,000 people take part in the country’s biggest garage sale.
Trail co-founder Andrew Valder expects at least two million items will be listed for reuse on the trail.
“Garage Sale Trail helps people to think about how we can all take responsibility for the waste we create,” he said.
“Items that are reused don’t end up in council collections or in landfill. It’s also a simple way for people to meet and talk to people in their community as well as fundraise.”
At last year’s Garage Sale Trail 321,000 people got involved at 15,151 garage sales nationally.
The average household sale made $379, community groups gained $650 and schools collected $1500.
Maribyrnong mayor Catherine Cumming said the campaign helps people take some responsibility for the creation of waste.
“And as the saying goes one person’s trash is another person’s treasure.”
