The largest short film festival in Melbourne’s west will return in 2018, taking the plunge into feature length screenings for the first time.
The fifth annual Setting Sun Short Film Festival is calling for entries to screen at the Sun Theatre Yarraville next April, offering thousands of dollars of prizes.
Last year’s festival received close to 80 short films from Melbourne’s top filmmakers and overseas, selling out all screening sessions.
An expanded five-day festival in 2018 will offer awards in categories including animation, short feature, short doco, comedy, acting, direction, screenwriting and more.
Festival director Anna Bourozikas said films of up to 12 minutes can be entered for the short film festival, while the event is also seeking to premiere its first feature length film.
“The festival enjoys a lot of support and it is great to see it growing and thriving every year.”
Award-winning film producer Sue Maslin will sponsor the female only Rouge program for the third year and will donate $1000 to the best film directed by a female filmmaker.
Festival partner Victoria University will sponsor the Best Secondary Student Film Award as well as offering the top 10 secondary school filmmakers a specialist film masterclass.
The Setting Sun Short Film Festival will be held April 26-30 at the Sun Theatre, Yarraville.
