Hobsons Bay council has approved a plan for the future of Laverton’s McCormack Park.

At its meeting on Tuesday, December 13, council passed a motion to adopt the McCormack Park Master Plan.

As a result of council’s recommendation to decommission the Laverton Swim and Fitness Centre, council has developed the McCormack Park Master Plan to ensure a holistic planning approach to guide the future use and all future upgrades of the site.

Following council’s approval at the August 2022 council meeting, the council released the draft McCormack Park Master Plan for public exhibition for six weeks from August 15 to September 23.

The draft master plan included a story telling river, a water play workshop, a viewing and climbing tower, a bush trail, bridge improvements, socialising hubs, a picnic facility expansion, a multi-sport court, an exercise hub, an amphitheatre, a redesigned carpark and pathway improvements.

Speaking in support of the motion, Hobsons Bay deputy mayor Diana Grima said the park was a valuable meeting place for Laverton residents of all ages.

“It’s a place that I’ve used for over 35 years,” she said.

“We’ve also been talking with community groups and schools which use McCormack Park.”
