Shaping the future of McIvor Reserve

Just as balancing the needs of our community against available income is a constant challenge for council, so too is ensuring the services our community wants and needs are able to be accommodated in a constrained open space environment.

This has become somewhat of a talking point recently, as council considers upgrades and enhancements to McIvor Reserve in Yarraville, which is also identified as a potential site for an indoor sports facility.

We all know McIvor Reserve is a much-loved open space that supports a range of community sporting and recreational needs.

While wanting to continue to support these needs, we’re trying to understand if there is a way this space can be shared to also accommodate the needs of our community wanting to participate in indoor sporting activities.

The recently endorsed draft Master Plan for McIvor Reserve considers both these things.

It proposes more than two dozen upgrades – with a focus on better lighting, more trees and seating, improvements to the fenced dog park, and surface upgrades to the ovals – reflected in the more than 1000 comments from our community around enhancements they would like to see.

It also provides more detail around what an indoor sports facility could look like if it was located on the reserve with more clarity around possible positioning, size, and associated impacts on open space, traffic and parking, that we were also asked to provide.

Now that we are able to share how these upgrades and enhancements could be delivered, we want to know what you think.

I encourage all those interested in the project to head to yourcityyourvoice.com.au/mcivor to share their thoughts to help guide the future of this much-loved open space.

Feedback is open until midnight, Sunday, December 18.

The voice of our community, especially on major projects like the development of the McIvor Master Plan, is always valued and will play a significant role in ensuring McIvor Reserve continues to service the needs of our growing community into the future.
