People are being invited to provide feedback on Hobsons Bay council’s strategy to promote tourism, an industry generating $294 million annually into the local economy.

The council has released its draft Experience Hobsons Bay Tourism Strategy 2019-24 for community feedback.

Councillor Angela Altair, who holds the tourism portfolio, said the tourism industry also supported more than 1300 jobs locally.

“We are lucky to have over 20 kilometres of breathtaking beaches and foreshore, as well as an array of cultural attractions and diverse shopping precincts,” she said.

“Located only seven kilometres from Melbourne’s CBD, where else can you get to your destination by ferry, bicycle, seaplane, train or even river punt?”

Museum Victoria’s Scienceworks in Spotswood attracts more than 500,000 visitors each year.

Other main attractions in Hobsons Bay include Seaworks Maritime Precinct, The Substation, Altona and Williamstown beaches, HMAS Castlemaine, Melbourne Ballpark and the Newport Railway Workshops where Steamrail Victoria is based.

The draft strategy was developed with stakeholders including tourism operators and volunteers at the Hobsons Bay Visitor Information Centre.

The draft strategy and proposed first year action plan can be viewed at participate.hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au/tourism-strategy

Feedback closes 5pm on April 5.
