For a Tarneit mother and her two daughters, acting is a family affair.

Mala Singh-Narayan and her daughters, 16-year-old Shyla and 19-year-old Shanika attend ATA Acting Studio classes in Williamstown and Hoppers Crossing.

The family said that when their acting coach Adam Turnbull started teaching nine years ago, they were among the first students to join his studio.

Mrs Singh-Narayan, Shanika and Shyla will all perform in an ATA showcase next week.

Mrs Singh-Narayan said that she was passionate about acting as a child, and started taking classes a couple of years after her daughters began. She said she enjoyed feeling the adrenaline just before going on stage.

Mrs Singh-Narayan last year starred in an episode of Neighbours, and has been in a WorkSafe Victoria advertisement and an AMP in-house corporate video.

Shyla has appeared in advertisements for Priceline and Cricket Australia.

“At first acting was a confidence-booster, and as Adam taught us more about the industry, it became more of a passion,” Shyla said.

The ATA senior showcase will be held 7.30pm on Monday, December 9 at Altona Theatre.

The junior showcase (ages 12 and under) will be held 7.30pm on Tuesday, December 10. Tickets available at the door: adults $25, children $20. Details: www.ataactingstudio.com/
