The west’s largest film festival is set to become even bigger with new awards rolling out for Indigenous filmmakers and creators of online series.
Entries are now open for the sixth annual Setting Sun Film Festival, to be screened at the Sun Theatre in Yarraville over five days from May 2 to 6.
Filmmakers have the chance to win more than $10,000 in cash and prizes in a range of award categories.
Festival director Anna Bourozikas said she is hoping to attract a record number of short and feature length films that tell a great story, amuse and entertain.
“This is one of the biggest festivals in Melbourne now,” she said.
“There is something for everyone. We’re proud of the outstanding quality of films we attract every year.”
The festival last year screened 80 films in nine programs over five days, showcasing films in a range of genres from around Australia and overseas.
This year the festival will include new categories for Indigenous filmmakers and a web series section, along with the return of the popular female filmmakers’ program, The Rouge.
Entries are open until January 31 in all genres and categories.
