Smart phone bin app a complete waste

Maribyrnong residents need never again wake up in a panic after forgetting to put out their bins, thanks to a new smart phone app.

The council has launched an app that will let residents keep track of their bin collection via alerts and a calendar, as well as looking up different items to find out whether or not they are recyclable and how they can be disposed.

The Maribyrnong Bins and Recycling App helps residents report illegally dumped material and features additional information on composting, hard waste collections and details on the Sustainable Living Maribyrnong program.

The council hopes the app will help address some of the misinformation regarding waste and recycling, as part of its aim to increase waste diversion away from landfill and cut recycling contamination by half.

Maribyrnong mayor Catherine Cumming said the council is excited about the launch of the app which puts waste and recycling information at the fingertips of residents.

“This free digital tool will enable Maribyrnong residents to stay up-to-date with bin collection days and learn what can and cannot be recycled in kerbside bins,” she said.

“The app is part of our commitment to increase recycling awareness and understanding throughout the municipality.”

The Maribyrnong Bins and Recycling App is available for free in the Apple App Store and on Google Play.

The first 100 residents to download the app will receive a free keep cup and eco bag.
