Snuff Puppets throw open doors with intensive workshops

A rare chance to act out your wildest puppet ideas is opening up in Footscray.

One-of-a-kind puppet troupe Snuff Puppets will be throwing open their doors for workshops over the next three Saturdays.

‘Snuff Skool’ students will learn large-scale puppetry skills, sharing ideas and creating stories together.

Snuff Puppets artistic director Andy Freer said the day-long workshops will have plenty of freedom to improvise and play.

“People can have a taste of what it’s like to get inside the puppets,” he said.

“I often talk about people disappearing into the puppets – people get right into the performances.”

Classes will culminate in an improvised roaming performance on the streets of Footscray.

Freer said the opportunity to don the puppet suits may be extra attractive to people with an interest in performing but who may be a bit shy.

“Once you are in the puppet suit and you are out there you are in another zone,” he said.

“We’ve had past participants say it’s the best experience of their life.”

Workshops are for those aged 14 and above and will be held 9.30am-5.30pm, November 3, 10 and 17 at the Footscray Drill Hall, 395 Barkly Street.

Tickets ($35-$45) include one workshop, bookings via snuffpuppets.com/snuffskool2018
