Maidstone community members are encouraged to dig deep in support of a local cause supporting FightMND.
The Maidstone United Soccer Club is hosting a FightMND Big Freeze event on Tuesday, June 21 from 7pm, with junior president Marlon Pereira set to take a cold ice shower.
With a goal to raise $1000, the total stands at $588.50 at the time of publication.
Mr Pereira said the junior players will be getting involved by dumping the buckets of ice on his head.
“This is important to me because it’s important to us as a club as a whole,” he said.
“I want to take the plunge to raise the much needed funds for FightMND to help them continue to do the amazing work they do.”
The junior teams are also wearing FightMND socks during all of their June games to raise awareness of motor neurone disease.
Club junior secretary Catherine Cursio said the cause is important within the club community.
“I spent 13 years working in the area of progressive neurological disability and have seen first hand the devastating impact of this disease on people in the prime of their lives and their families,” she said.
“It is an area that is incredibly close to my heart and to that of our club community.”
