The spirit of giving has been alive and well at Williamstown North Primary School recently.
The Grade 4 group have raised $755.45 towards World Vision’s charity gift drive this year.
Williamstown North Primary School teacher Dianna Lane said the pupils’ “amazing effort” would go a long way towards assisting those in communities undergoing hardships across Africa, South East Asia and the Pacific.
“The pupils were so excited to choose the gifts to donate knowing how these gifts can help the world’s most vulnerable children and adults break out of poverty,” she said.
Ms Lane said the pupils worked hard to earn money towards the fundraiser, which would allow communities to purchase a variety of food and other goods, including a goat, a lamb, three piglets, nine chickens and eggs, clean drinking water, fish farms, sending a child to school, childhood immunisation and combating climate change.
“The pupils are so proud of their efforts as they have worked hard to earn some extra dollars to donate,” she said.
“They did some chores around the house, including vacuuming, washing dishes, sweeping leaves – much to the delight of their parents – and some pupils even donated some money from their savings.
“It was so inspiring listening to the pupils’ speeches as to why their gift would help the community really demonstrating how important this donation is.”
Every World Vision gift bought represents a real item around the world, with funds from gift purchases pooled to support work in a specific category such as health, water, emergencies, empowering women or building family incomes.
