Sprinting spirit alive and well in Altona

Altona Life Saving Club’s (LSC) Jack Wolff has earned the title of open men’s Victorian beach sprint champion at Life Saving Victoria’s 2023 senior championships.

Competing at Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club last weekend, he was among more than 800 of Victoria’s top lifesaving athletes from across 25 clubs.

LSV sport senior manager Chris Schleusener said all of the participating the athletes, officials and administrators excelled during the event.

“Victorian lifesavers are among some of the top lifesaving athletes in the nation, and it is incredible that the skills and comradery they put on display this weekend translate directly to lives saved in, on and around Victorian waterways,” he said.

“Lifesaving sport is truly unique and in addition to the training and dedication it takes to be a high performing athlete, these people are a driving force keeping communities safe between the flags and beyond.”

A number of other results for Altona LSC included first place in the open men’s beach relay with the team consisting of Saxon Davidson, Jack O’Dea, Jese Patterson and Jack Wolf and Jack O’Dea taking out third place in the open men’s beach sprint and third place in the open’s men’s beach flags event.

Williamstown Swimming and Life Saving Club also came in first place in the open mixed march past event, while their boat ‘Wet and Wild’ came in second place in the under 23 men boat event.
