The cream of the crop of Maribyrnong’s football talent met with some of Australia’s best players last weekend, with the Matildas stopping in for a visit.

Led by the Australia and Chelsea forward Sam Kerr, and other Matildas players, including Arsenal stars Steph Catley and Caitlin Foord, visited Elite Football Training Facilities on Sunday, November 13 to meet and greet a number of their biggest fans and also play a few games.

The visit marked the announcement of Commonwealth Bank in expanding its investment in football, becoming the first local tournament supporter of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023.

As the official bank supporter in Australia, Commonwealth Bank will release a range of initiatives, including activations and grassroots engagements.

Elite Football Managing Director Barbara Paz said a lot of work went into keeping the visit a secret.

“Eventually, it became apparent what a big deal this was going to be and that the Matildas would be attending, so we worked hard to deliver what we had to, to make sure that we could make the event a success,” she said.

Ms Paz said it was an honour to host the Matildas.

“Elite Football offers elite facilities, and we are regularly used by the likes of Melbourne Victory for training and events, so we are used to having some big names around the place,” she said.

“Our whole team is just mad about the world game.

“It’s the sport we grew up with and loved and we are just passionate about being able to provide this wonderful facility to the local community, as well as our own football programs for players of all ages and abilities.”
