Indigenous leader Jamie Marloo Thomas will talk about how everyone on this planet is connected at a World Environment Day show in the Planetarium at Scienceworks.
In 2013, the Point Cook resident co-created the Wayapa Wuurrk foundation which focuses on taking care of the Earth as a starting point to people taking care of themselves and their communities.
He will be making a presentation at a free show titled
Connecting People with Nature, also featuring Museum Victoria curator Kate Phillips talking about climate change.
Mr Thomas said for people to be truly well, the environment had to be well.
“Wayapa talks about the interconnectivity to everything,” he said. “Nothing is ever isolated.The way we act and connect and behave within a cityscape is important in a sense of how it affects nature.
“The 14 sequences that we talk about in Wayapa, they connect every human on the planet.
“I share it from an Australian indigenous perspective but it doesn’t matter where you come from on the planet, it all has resonance so it’s just as important for everyone to connect to the concept.”
Hobsons Bay mayor Sandra Wilson urged people to register for the free event.
“A Planetarium show will reveal the challenges of a changing climate and our environmental groups will be on hand to showcase the work they undertake in Hobsons Bay,” she said.
“The day raises awareness of how the increase of urban development is accelerating the loss of biodiversity and the impact that can have on our health – it’s beginning to reach a pressure point.”
Connecting People with Nature is on June 5 from 5.45-9pm in the Planetarium at Scienceworks, 2 Booker Street, Spotswood.
