Williamstown will host next month’s Oktoberfest in the West, with a special beer locally brewed for the occasion.
Seaworks will be transformed into a Munich-style beer hall inspired by the volksfest held annually in Bavaria, Germany.
Spotswood’s Two Birds Brewing has created a Kolsch-style beer, Westbier Bitte, for the event.
Brownlow medallist Adam Cooney, wife Haylea and Western Bulldogs premiership player Clay Smith will manage the bar and run traditional games.
“Haylea and I loved the idea of an Oktoberfest in our backyard,” Cooney said. “It’s a lot of fun and will keep the family entertained.”
Event organiser Thomas Clifford said it would be the first in the refurbished waterfront Seaworks building since its $3million upgrade.
“We’re expecting up to 3000 guests who will walk into a fabulously decorated huge beer hall with plenty of seating and traditional and modern music playing,” he said. “As they look outside through the new massive glass doors, they will see rides, carnivals, German food vendors and market stalls.”
Oktoberfest in the West will be on Saturday, October 6, from noon-11pm at Seaworks, 82 Nelson Place, Williamstown. General entry tickets, including a souvenir stein, cost $40.
The event supports the Movember Foundation.
