The west is gearing up for a night to remember when the galleries, venues and spaces in-between play host to One Night in Footscray.
The free event will feature an eclectic array of entertainment including roving performers, live music and DJs along with kids’ activities, gallery exhibitions, an artist market and participatory art installations.
The night-long celebration on Friday, November 24 is a Footscray University Town initiative, a partnership between Victoria University (VU) and Maribyrnong council.
VU’s Footscray University Town creative producer Bec Carey-Grieve said the event celebrates local talent and offers a chance to explore and discover Footscray.
“We hope this event will encourage journeys through central Footscray and its creative spaces, highlighting the work of local arts and makers,” she said.
“It’s also a great way to create new opportunities to engage with art in public spaces.”
Maribyrnong mayor Catherine Cumming said the west in general, and Footscray in particular, are home to a strong and increasingly creative community.
The action will unfold from 5pm, taking over venues including the Phoenix Youth Hub, Mr West, Nicholson Street Mall, Five Walls gallery, Littlefoot and VU at MetroWest.
