Structural fire in Footscray

A community warning has been issued following a fire at a Footscray shop on Monday morning.

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) crews were called to Nicholson Street about 3.43am, following a report a two-storey shop and residence was on fire.

On arrival, fire crews found an extensive fire at the rear of the building on the second level, FRV said.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus and with the assistance of two aerial firefighting trucks are working hard to bring the fire under control and prevent it spreading to adjoining properties.

A community warning has been issued for smoke in the area.
