An upcoming Yarraville live music venue has been selected as one of the first recipients of a new state government grant.
The yet-to-be opened Mantra Studio Kitchen Bar was one of 26 Victorian music venues to receive a Good Music Neighbours grant of $2100 to undertake an acoustic assessment at its Campbell Street venue.
Co-owner Patsy Toop, best known as one half of the musical duo The Long and Short of It, said the grant was a win-win.
“It really focuses on the things that matter about being compliant,” Ms Toop said.
“We’re very fortunate that we’re a fair way away from our neighbours and we’ll be operating outside business hours but we’re very conscious about noise.”
Ms Toop said the “artists’ precinct” would open about July/August and incorporate a recording studio upstairs, live music venue downstairs seating 60 people as well as a cafe/restaurant.
“We’re trying to encourage and showcase independent musicians, singers and songwriters,” Ms Toop said.
The Good Music Neighbours program supports live music venues to undertake building projects – or seek advice – to manage sound, in and out of their premises. Venues can undertake a variety of projects from specialist acoustic advice, to installing double-glazing and sound-absorbing furnishings.
