A number of Williamstown Swimming and Life Saving Club [SLSC] members will be representing the state in the Australian inflatable rescue boat [IRB] Championships in New South Wales later this month.

Competitors will be showing their rescue skills on the waves in Mollymook from Thursday, July 21 until Sunday, July 24.

Williamstown’s Christian Aquila, Callum Dickson, Shaun Leith and assistant coach Alex Walton will join other representatives from across other life saving clubs, including Ocean Grove, Portsea and Brighton.

On the Victorian IRB development team, the Williamstown SLSC representatives will be Alastair Thomas, Jasmine Happ and Brydie Logan, as well as patient co-ordinator Joel Farrow.

The athletes will form part of a 36-strong squad selected by Life Saving Victoria’s [LSV] aquatic sports council, based on results at the recent TRE Motorsport 2022 Victorian IRB Championships and will compete against the nation’s best IRB drivers, crews and patients.

LSV aquatic sport board director Aaron Green said he wished the state team the best of luck for the championships.

“Being selected to represent your state is one of the highest honours for our athletes, team managers, coaches and coordinators,” he said.

“Victoria has a long history of success at the national level in IRB racing.”

Individual clubs will also send teams to compete at the championships.
