Blokes and those who love them are invited to join the Walk for Men’s Health in Williamstown on Sunday.
Williamstown’s Jo Davis founded the walk in honour of her late husband, football identity Graeme “Creamy” Davis. He was diagnosed in 2010 with the bowel/liver cancer that would claim his life two years later at the age of 51.
“My husband was an amazing man,” Ms Davis said. “Graeme was big in the footy fraternity – everyone knew him. He was just one of those top blokes.
“For me, he just can’t pass in vain – there has to be something that comes of this, hence the walk was born.
“It’s OK for guys to talk about their health issues, whether it be with each other or their partners.”
Rallying beside her this year will be the walk’s ambassadors – AFL legend Mick Martyn, Brownlow medallist Brad Hardy and world champion boxer Barry Michael.
The eight-kilometre walk will run from 8am on Sunday, November 18, with registrations from 7am. The event will start and finish at the Williamstown football oval.
Money raised will go to the EJ Whitten Foundation to help promote men’s health awareness.
The foundation’s Ted Whitten and Nick Holland will be among those stepping out for the walk.
