The Western Bulldogs’ top dog has joined a team pounding the pavement to raise funds for the club’s Community Foundation’s programs.
Club chief executive Gary Kent ran a half marathon with Team Bulldog last week as part of the Melbourne Marathon, raising money for programs including Ready, Settle, Go! the Leadership Project, Sons of the West and the Daughters of the West pilot program.
Kent, who ran his 21.1-kilometre half marathon through Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay, said the club was incredibly proud of its programs.
“The demand for our community programs is growing, fuelled by the population growth in the west of Melbourne,” he said.
“We need support to continue to provide for our existing programs and to extend our reach to more people who need our help.”
Another member of Team Bulldog, Jonathan Manallack, highlighted the results being achieved by the Sons of the West program.
Mr Manallack joined the program in 2014, shedding 40 kilograms and paving the way for a run in the 10km event.
“I needed to do something about my physical health as I had been sick for a number of years,” he said.
“I heard that the club was running this Sons of the West program so I thought I’d come along.”
