Australia’s largest LGBTIQ sport and recreation “come and try” day will make its way to Footscray in February.

Team Melbourne’s Sports Festival, now in its sixth year, is a celebration of LGBTIQ sport and recreation in Melbourne.

The free event aims to involve more of the LGBTIQ community in sport, promote the important health benefits of sport and build a stronger connection across the state’s LGBTIQ sporting and recreation groups.

Almost 20 LGBTIQ sports teams will be on hand, offering interactive activities in sports including AFL 9s, rugby union and volleyball as well as swimming, rowing and tennis.

Performers will entertain throughout the day and a ‘queer family space’, presented by Proud2Play, will feature adventure activities.

The sports festival will be held from 9am-4pm Saturday, February 4, at Footscray Park and Victoria University’s Footscray campus.
