Teen charged following weekend western suburbs assault

UPDATE:

A 17-year-old has been charged and will appear at court following a number of armed robberies and a serious assault in the western suburbs at the weekend.

The teen was arrested following the execution of four warrants, three in Reservoir and one in West Melbourne, yesterday afternoon.

The West Melbourne teen was charged with three counts of armed robbery, one count of attempted armed robbery, theft of motor car and intentionally cause serious injury.

He was remanded overnight to appear at a children’s court at a later date.

The charges follow investigations into two armed robberies and an attempted armed robbery including a Newport incident in which a teenager was seriously assaulted.

A woman posted on Facebook that her son was being monitored around the clock in hospital.

“My son has been in hospital since 3am Sunday … he has undergone surgery for a fractured skull and is being monitored 24 hours a day.”

It is alleged one of her son’s friends was robbed of his phone, wallet, jacket and shoes while a knife or similar sharp object was held to his throat.

Police were later called to a convenience store in Williamstown Road, Yarraville about 4.45am and a service station in Somerville Road, Yarraville, after reports of an attempted break-in and threats to an attendant.

On Tuesday morning, police attended a service station in High Street, Reservoir, after receiving reports of a suspicious car.

They arrested three males and two females in connection with the Newport assault.

They also seized a Nissan Skyline, believed to have been stolen from Maidstone on Friday.

Police said the incident was not Apex gang related.
