Footscray High School’s Dux Miles Jarman said he is feeling really good about his results.

For Miles, maths has always been one of his favourite subjects, leading him to succeeding the most in maths methods this year.

“I got a 45 in methods which I was not expecting at all, I was expecting something much lower,” he said.

“That boosted by ATAR to a 97 which was very nice.”

This year, Miles completed methods, specialist maths, English language, chemistry and physics.

“My favourite subject was either methods or physics, I would say physics just because the class was quite fun to be in, methods were good because I liked maths,” he said.

“It has always been my interest from prep to year 12.”

Importantly, throughout the year Miles said he managed to keep a good study- life balance going.

“I managed to find quite a lot of free time, I still managed to find a lot of time to hang out with a lot of my friends and play a few games,” he said.

“Overall, I feel like it was quite manageable throughout the year, although I felt like maybe I could have gotten a bit more sleep.”

After school Miles hopes to go to university to study an engineering science degree.

“I’m starting to like science a bit more, as things get a little more complicated, they become a bit more interesting.

“So I feel like doing science at university would be quite enjoyable.”

For next year’s year 12 students, Miles recommends not overworking yourself.

“Study until you feel tired, work at your own pace and find what is good for you,” he said.

“No matter what results you get, you still did very well because year 12 was really stressful and definitely an accomplishment that everyone who completed it should definitely be proud of themselves.”
