A university student has been reunited with her stolen laptop and a 47-year-old- man has been charged following a quick response by Williamstown police officers.

Officers on patrol on October 25 were flagged down by the student, who said a man had just stolen her laptop, which contained the only copy of her thesis and unsubmitted uni assignments.

After getting a description they were able to quickly locate and arrest the man, who was located with stolen property relating to other offences.

While the laptop was not located at the time of the arrest, police successfully reunited the victim with the stolen laptop the next day.

The victim discovered it had since been password protected by the alleged offender, but police were able to obtain the new codes and the victim was able to access her work.

The 47-year-old man has been charged with burglary, theft and theft from motor vehicle.
