Police arrested three men during an operation targeting criminal and anti-social behaviour in central Footscray earlier this week.

Three men were arrested for drug offences during Operation OKAMI, which officers from the Maribyrnong neighbourhood policing team and the dog squad conducted in the Footscray CBD and Footscray station on Tuesday, December 10.

Police arrested a 45-year-old Docklands man allegedly in possession of methyl amphetamine and cannabis, a 32-year-old Footscray man allegedly in possession of synthetic cannabis and a 25-year-old male from Footscray allegedly in possession of ketamine.

The 45-year-old and 32-year-old were both charged with drug possession and bailed to appear at court at a later date.

The 25-year-old man was issued with a drug diversion.

Maribyrnong Inspector Paul Morgan said the operation was part of ongoing efforts by police to provide a visible presence, detect and deter crime and curb anti-social behaviour in central Footscray.

“Maribyrnong police will continue to patrol the Footscray CBD and surrounds area, and run targeted operations to disrupt offenders, prevent crime and improve overall community safety,” Inspector Morgan said.

In addition to making three arrests, police from Operation OKAMI also conducted 23 drug searches, two weapons searches, six licensed premises checks and four bench warrants during their patrols.

Three council infringements for possession of open alcohol, and one fine for littering, were also issued.
