Three rescued from fire

Police helped save three people and a dog from a house fire in Werribee on Tuesday.

Detectives from the Wyndham Crime Investigation Unit were on patrol when they saw flames coming from the window of a house in Fisher Court, just after midnight.

Police helped two men, a woman and their dog to leave the property.

A 49-year-old man sustained non-life threatening burns to his face and was taken to hospital, along with a 48-year-old man, for observation.

A 46-year-old woman and the dog were not injured.

The fire caused extensive damage to the property and is being treated as non-suspicious. Police said fire investigators would attend the scene on Wednesday to determine the cause.

In a separate incident, MFB crews were called to a fire at a unit in Woods Street, Laverton just after 1am on July 6.

The sole male occupant of the house was evacuated to safety, but his pet dog remains unaccounted for.

The blaze was brought under control in 30 minutes, but the unit was severely damaged.

The fire has been deemed suspicious and Victoria Police will investigate.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
