Traffic camera car operator threatened and vehicle damaged

Victoria Police is appealing for assistance following two incidents involving two men damaging a mobile traffic camera vehicle and threatening its operator in Altona on Wednesday, January 25.

Police have released footage of the two incidents, which occurred on Civic Parade between 6.30pm and 7.30pm on Wednesday, January 25.

During the first incident, a man on a bicycle approached the vehicle and was verbally aggressive towards the operator, spat on the window and punched the driver’s side mirror.

The man fled the scene along Civic Parade in a westerly direction.

The man was described as having a medium build, grey hair and stubble and a black flame tattoo on his right calf and was wearing a black and white ‘Lonsdale’ singlet at the time of the incident.

An hour later, a man wearing a beige balaclava approached the vehicle and splashed white paint over the vehicle and threatened the operator with a tomahawk.

The man also fled the scene along Civic Parade in a westerly direction before getting into a black Mercedes C-Class or similar vehicle on Bent Street.

He was described as having a slim build, about 182 centimetres tall and was wearing a camouflage top and dark jeans at the time of the incident.

The traffic car operator was not injured during the incidents.

Police have indicated that they believe the two incidents are linked.
