Traffic chaos after truck rollover

The exit from the M80 Ring Road Altona-bound to the Western Freeway at Sunshine West is closed after a collision and garbage truck rollover on Wednesday between 10.30am and 11am.

Drivers are being advised to use the Fitzgerald Road exit instead.

Motorists should head south to Boundary Road for access to the M80 Ring Road Greensborough-bound and then take the Western Freeway exit.

Alternatives are the entries to the Western Freeway from Robinsons Road at Derrimut or Ballarat Road at Caroline Springs.

The clean-up is expected to continue into the afternoon.

Department of Transport spokesman Andrew Crook said there was significant congestion.

“There’s been two incidents,” he said.

“One is a collision on the exit and a little further up a garbage truck has rolled,” he said.

“At the moment we’re seeing pretty significant congestion in the area, especially on the detour route, which is taking people onto Boundary Road.

“So, we’re suggesting people maybe use Ballarat Road through Deer Park and out through Caroline Springs instead.

“And just to be patient and allow extra time.”
