Tricks, flicks and spins on show

Braybrook will soon host the best of Australia’s freestyle BMX talent as part of the inaugural Braybrook BMX Fest.

Held across the weekend of Saturday, November 19 and Sunday, November 20, the festival will host the AusCycling Freestyle BMX National Championships and a Down Underground Flatland BMX Competition at the RampFest Indoor Skate Park.

RampFest owner Chris Bierton said he was looking forward to hosting some of the best BMX freestyle riders, with the competitors using a variety of tricks to wow the judges, being scored on their height and style.

“It’s a combination of extreme creativity and athleticism,” he said.

“Australia has some of the best BMX riders in the world.

“There won’t be any shortage of cool tricks for people to see.”

Mr Bierton said he can not wait to see local BMX talents show off their skills and compete for the top prize, including Jake Wallwork, Alec Danelutti and Liam Quinlivan in the pro competition and Cooper Wilson and Xavier Gilbee in the amateur contest.

“You’ll be seeing some of the world’s best riders,” he said.

Mr Bierton said the festival will also showcase flatland BMX, which is a style performed on flat surfaces and involves riders balancing and spinning the bike.

“It’s basically an art form,” he said.

The flatland competition will be held from 4pm on Saturday, November 19.

RampFest will also host a ‘jam night’ for anybody wanting to show off their skills outside or inside from 5pm on Saturday, November 19.

Food and drink will be available from Back Alley Sally’s and Slice Girls West, along with live music.

Single-day tickets are available for $10 per person and $7.50 for children, while weekend tickets are available for $15 per person and $10 for children.
