Truck collides with cyclist in Footscray

Westgate Highway Patrol officers have appealed for anyone with any information on a collision between a truck and a cyclist in Footscray on Friday, August 5.

Leading Senior Constable Melissa Seach said police have alleged a cyclist was travelling south on Whitehall Road at about 4pm when a white Mitsubishi prime mover with an empty container collided with the rider at the intersection of Somerville Road.

“The truck driver, a 60-year-old St Albans man, stopped at the scene to assist,” she said.

“The cyclist, a 22-year-old Yarraville man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“Investigators believe a number of witnesses left the scene prior to police arrival and are keen to speak to them.”
