Two Altona men charged following firearms incidents

Police charged two men on Friday evening as part of an investigation into a number of firearm and drug matters.

The charges follow two incidents in Altona North last year where firearms are alleged to have been involved.

The first incident allegedly occurred between September 13 and 14, when police located three handguns and homemade rifle at a premises adjacent to where a 45-year-old Altona North man was living at the time.

The second incident allegedly occurred on November 29, where the man was involved in an affray with a 40-year-old man who owned a tobacco store in the Altona North area.

Police believe a firearm was discharged during the incident, but nobody was physically injured.

The Altona North man was charged with possess trafficable quantity firearms, prohibited person possessing firearm, possess firearms in contravention of FPO, affray and handle stolen goods.

He was bailed by the court to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on January 17.

A 49-year-old Altona Meadows man was charged with failing to appear on bail. He plead guilty at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday afternoon.

A 41-year-old Delahey man was interviewed for drug possession and released pending further inquiries.

Taskforce Lunar detectives are looking at these matters as part of the overall investigation into the current dispute in relation to illicit tobacco given the parties involved.
