Two new cases of locally-acquired COVID-19 were announced on Thursday.
The two cases were in level two of the MCC Members’ Reserve, which had been attended by an infectious man in his 60s from Maribyrnong’s Ariele Apartments.
The infectious man visited Highpoint Shopping Centre on Friday, July 9, and the Carlton-Geelong match at the MCG on Saturday, July 10.
He attended the game with his friend from Barwon Heads, a teacher at Bacchus Marsh Grammar school, who has tested positive.
The man’s parents in Craigieburn, aged 89 and 90, have tested positive.
Victoria’s COVID commander Jeroen Weimar said the two new positive cases were not “known contacts of the other two positive cases we know were there”.
“Obviously, we have concerns about the fact that we know this one individual was significantly infectious,” he said.
“He is infectious to his elderly parents, he’s infectious to his friends; there may well be other other infections [linked] to these two cases that we’ve identified at the MCG.
“And, of course, you’ve got other exposure sites that he has been in: two tram trips at least, a train trip and Young & Jackson, and a number of other places.”
Bacchus Marsh Grammar students were yesterday ordered to stay home for the rest of the week.
The teacher attended the school’s staff day with other teachers on Monday, but was not in direct contact with students on either Tuesday or Wednesday.
Mr Weimar said there was “no more risk of leakage” from Ariele Apartments.
