Work will begin later this month on the reconstruction of the two soccer fields located at the north-eastern corner of Hansen Reserve.
Maribyrnong council said the improvements will support year-round access for various activities, including soccer, cricket, football, and general public use.
The upgrades will include releveling of the surface, upgrading irrigation systems, installing new subsurface drainage, laying new turf, provision of portable soccer goals, and a synthetic cricket wicket.
To facilitate works, the two soccer pitches will be closed from late-April, until approximately March, 2025, with temporary fencing to be installed around the perimeter of the pitches.
Maribyrnong mayor Cuc Lam said the reconstruction reflects council’s commitment to providing top-tier recreational facilities for our community.
“These upgrades will not only improve the quality of playing surfaces, increasing capacity for the growing local soccer community, but also enhance the overall experience for residents engaging in recreational activities within the Reserve,” she said.
Council said crews will be onsite between 7am-5pm, Monday to Friday.
Barlow Oval (south-eastern oval) and Walker Oval (north-western oval) within Hansen Reserve will remain open for community access.
The Footscray Rangers have been relocated to Robert Barrett Reserve for the duration of the works.
