Vaccine pop-up clinics at Buddhist temple, mosque

Vaccine pop-up clinics have been established at a Braybrook Buddhist temple and Tottenham mosque.

Maribyrnong council has partnered with cohealth and faith leaders to make it easier for community members to get their COVID-19 vaccines locally.

Clinics have been established at Quang Minh Temple, a Vietnamese Buddhist temple and community centre in Braybrook, and Australia Light Foundation, a mosque and community centre in Tottenham.

They will operate in October for first doses and in November for second doses.

Maribyrnong has one the lowest vaccination rates in Victoria according to the Australian Department of Health.

As at September 26, 72.5 per cent of eligible residents in Maribyrnong had received their first dose and 44.3 per cent their second.

Maribyrnong mayor Michael Clarke urged everyone to play their part in supporting the roadmap to reopening.

“We want to make it as easy as possible for everyone to receive their vaccination at places they are familiar with and where bilingual workers and interpreters will also be onsite if people wish to seek out advice around the vaccine and any safety concerns they may have,” he said.

“The roadmap out of the pandemic recently announced for Victoria makes it clear that getting vaccinated is key to restoring some form of normality and bring us closer to doing what we love with those we love.”

Pfizer and AstraZeneca will be available at both sites.

Quang Minh Temple, 18 Burke Street, Braybrook, is open 10am-4.30pm from Monday, October 4 until Friday, October 8 for walk-ins only.

Bookings for second doses will be made at the time and be administered October 15-19.

Australia Light Foundation, 291/293 Sunshine Road, Tottenham, will be open 10am-4.30pm Monday, October 11 to Friday, October 15 for walk-ins only.

Bookings for second doses will be made at the time and be administered November 22-26.
