Hundreds of volunteers swarmed across the inner-west last Friday to lend a hand with dozens of community projects.
More than 600 Victoria University students and staff stepped in to help out community projects ranging from aged and disability care to education and the environment.
VU student communications director Naomi Dempsey said the annual V4U Day was a way for the 100-year-old institution to give back to the community.
“The aim of V4U is to strengthen our relationship with our community as a sign of our appreciation for their support of the university,” she said.
“It also fosters the value of giving back among our students, and we see this when our students continue their relationships with their project organisation after V4U Day.” Staff and students took on a variety of jobs with 30 organisations, ranging from gardening at schools and aged-care homes to working at the urban wetlands of Newells Paddock.
Repeat volunteer Tuli Serra said taking part in V4U had helped her develop leadership skills.
