Visions for better spaces

Hobsons Bay council has endorsed a draft plan for a potential future vision of the Brooklyn and Altona North townships and areas.

During its meeting on Tuesday, September 13, council passed a motion to endorse the draft Better Places Brooklyn and Altona North Place Guide to seek further public feedback on the document.

Councillor Daria Kellander said a number of proposed ideas outlined in the draft plan included the Brooklyn Oxygen Forest, the general greening of local streets and rerouting and rescheduling of bus services.

“Several proposed projects can be funded and implemented under the existing budgets, while others will require future funding to be secured,” she said.

“I urge everyone to jump online and let us know what you think,” she said.

The proposed Brooklyn Oxygen Forest project would involve engaging with technology companies, local universities and other design experts to develop a pollution intervention plan to deploy passive and active filtering solutions throughout the Brooklyn area.

The draft plan also detailed potential visions for upgrades to public spaces, such as streetscape improvements at The Circle shopping area.

The council received a total of 2360 responses as part of the initial engagement process, which highlighted 480 ideas for the area.

Consultation on the draft Better Places Brooklyn and Altona North Place Guide will close on Saturday, October 15.
