Cr Tony Briffa
This is such a difficult time for many of us and I understand people being fatigued and stressed with the ongoing lockdowns. Families are feeling the hurt of being separated from loved ones, being required to stay home for very long periods, trying to educate, entertain and care for children at home and only essential workers permitted to go to work. It is a hugely challenging and stressful time and I know people are hurting.
The latest COVID outbreak in Altona North is also a cause of concern locally. I’m confident we will get through this. We all need to try our best to do the right thing and, as hard as it is, I urge people to focus on what they can do to make a difference rather than what other people are doing. If you have been to an exposure site or have any symptoms, please get tested right away and isolate. My wife and I are fully vaccinated, and I encourage you to get vaccinated, too, if you can. I appreciate this is a personal choice and is subject to your own medical advice. The more people vaccinated the better the situation we will be in when restrictions start to ease.
If you need to isolate, there’s lots of help available to get you through it, including food relief, mental health assistance, financial aid and crisis intervention support. Visit www.hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au/Coronavirus.
In news across Cherry Lake ward, the new and improved HW Lee Reserve in Altona is now finished and ready for community use! So, too, is the car park at PA Burns. The new car park features 116 car park spaces, three accessible parking bays and areas for horse floats. The ‘Doggy Beach’ is such a wonderful place for those of us lucky enough to have fur babies!
There are also big things coming up in Brooklyn in coming weeks, including the release of the urban forest strategy’s canopy delivery plan, which will feature presentations from revered tree expert Ian Shears, as well as Better Places Altona North and Brooklyn.
