Newport music stalwart Sherry Rich will be joining a stellar all-Victorian line-up when the much-loved Out on the Weekend festival returns to Williamstown’s Seaworks on December 11.
After sitting out 2020 due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the festival is set to return with long-time friends including Wagons and Lost Ragas, while the illustrious Mick Thomas will be appearing for the first time with his band The Roving Commission.
Liz Stringer will also making her first appearance, bringing along her full band for the ride.
Steve Hoy will perform his classic album Life Next Door, while much-loved Melbourne outfits the Warner Brothers and Sherry Rich & The Grievous Angels will make rare appearances in a line-up rounded out by a wealth of young talent including Brooke Russell, Ben Mastwyk, Luke Sinclair and Katie Bates.
This year’s special tribute feature presentation is The Girl From Chickasaw County, a tribute to the songs and stylings of mysterious ‘60s Southern gothic singer-songwriter Bobbie Gentry, best known for her song “Ode To Billie Joe”.
Organiser Brian “BT” Taranto of Love Police said with national borders slammed shut for international visitors and a question mark hanging over domestic borders, attention was turned to finding the best roots talent Victoria had to offer.
“There are more than enough quality known, unknown and legendary acts to make the day unmissable,” he said.
“Melbourne is known as the musical capital of the country, no disputing that – let us embrace that, celebrate it, and get set for our favourite day of the year at Seaworks.”
