Hobsons Bay detectives have released an image of a ‘well-dressed’ woman they want to speak with after a unique bike was stolen from Newport.

The custom 1970s Ricardo men’s single speed was stolen from a Wills Street garage about 10.30am on Sunday.

A security camera picked up a woman walking into the open garage and riding off on the bike.

Police have released an image of a woman that they believe may be able to assist with their inquiries.

The bike’s owner, Rob Mancini, said he felt violated.

“It sort of hits you in the guts,” he said.

“It’s just a sense of horror and violation, I guess, that your space has been invaded.

“When we saw the person [on CCTV], it was a well-dressed woman and it was not my image of the sort of person it would be.

“That threw me.”

Mr Mancini said the custom-made bike had been a labour of love.

“It’s a 1970s frame … I’ve imported German wheels,” he said.

“It’s unusual because it’s a one-off plus it is custom.

“I do these projects because I love bikes and the way they look from a design point of view, so I do them with passion and love.”
