Williamstown’s Hamish Nye will be abseiling 27 storeys – in his suit – to raise money for children in foster care.
Mr Nye hopes to raise $5000 for Anglicare Victoria by taking part in next month’s Altitude Shift event, abseiling down the St James building in Melbourne’s CBD.
The father-of-two said he had supported Anglicare for a number of years and is impressed with its services.
“They look after most of the foster care kids in the state … it’s a charity that’s not as self-promoting, and it deals with some of the hardest things that any charity has to deal with,” he said.
“I’ve got two young kids and the joy of my life is coming home to them. To think that there are other kids out there that don’t have that love from or the ability of their families to look after them in the same way, for one reason or another.
“That there are other people out there who are prepared to offer their home and shelter and comfort to kids in need … I think that’s very, very impressive.”
Anglicare Victoria chief executive Paul McDonald said the charity event would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for a good cause.
“If you can live on the edge and are looking for some excitement … we need you,” he said.
The event, for people aged 16+, is capped at 200 places and registration costs $150. Participants raise a minimum of $850 to secure their spot.
