Footscray police have alleged a 48-year-old West Footscray man returned an blood alcohol reading more than five times the legal limit while driving.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said Footscray police intercepted a Toyota Hilux ute in Braybrook at about 9.30am on Monday, July 11, after witnessing the driver allegedly driving erratically.

“The vehicle was immediately impounded and his licence was automatically suspended,” the spokesperson said.

“The West Footscray man is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving and other traffic related offences.”

The spokesperson said the intercept followed on from a string of offences detected as part of the North West Metro Region’s Operation Achilles, including similar intercepts in Melton and Thomastown.
