West Footscray Neighbourhood House (WFNH) is opening it’s doors to all locals next week, with a range of activities and events organised as a part of its community open day.
The Neighbourhood House’s open day will take place on Friday April 22 from 11am to 3pm. The day is one of four open days they are planning on holding this year.
There will be a whole range of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy, such as an art workshop, badge making, a hip-hop performance by L2R, a sausage sizzle and delicious tea and scones.
WFNH community programs coordinator Tania Jorquera said funding from a Hobson Bay community grant has allowed the Neighbourhood House to host the four open days.
“Project reconnect is what it’s called. It’s basically, obviously because of COVID, a lot of disconnection has occurred. So it’s really about reconnecting with the Neighbourhood House, reconnecting with each other and reconnecting with local services, which is why we have a local hip hop group that’s coming,” she said.
“We’ll also be providing 100 showbags on the day, which will just have information about lots of different local services like community centres, things that are on, it’s just as a way for people to start reconnecting everything around them.”
WFNH originally opened in 1990, and offers a variety of services such as Chatty Café, community childcare, Maribyrnong Toy Library, Soul House social support group and a single mothers playgroup.
Subsequent open days will be held in July, which will mostly focus on adults, and twice in September, one aimed at primary school aged kids and one for students in secondary school.
WFNH is located alongside the library at the West Footscray Community Learning Centre at Level1/539 Barkly St, West Footscray.
